BBF Partners With The City of Boston to Present Two New Burying Grounds Tours

Boston By Foot, in partnership with the City of Boston's Historic Burying Grounds Initiative, will offer two brand-new burying ground tours starting this summer!

Researched, written and presented by BBF volunteers, these tours are free, but space is limited and advance registration is required.

The Historic Burying Grounds Initiative manages 16 different burying grounds located in Boston, including Dorchester North and Eliot. Three additional burying grounds — Granary, King's Chapel, and Copp's Hill — are located along Boston's Freedom Trail and are included in many popular BBF tours.

DORCHESTER NORTH BURYING GROUND

Join us to explore 400 years of Boston history on a walking tour of the Dorchester North Burying Ground, one of the city's oldest and most significant historic cemeteries. Founded in 1633, this remarkable burial ground offers a window into colonial Boston, the American Revolution, and the generations of people who shaped Dorchester and the city beyond.

ELIOT BURYING GROUND

The Eliot Burying Ground has stood at the crossroads of Roxbury's history for nearly four centuries. From early Puritan settlers and Indigenous history to Roxbury's role in the American Revolution — when the burying ground became part of a military redoubt during the Siege of Boston — this walking tour explores the people and events that shaped one of Boston's oldest neighborhoods.
