Program Description:
New Boston By Foot volunteer guides are conducting in-depth research for two upcoming tours of Dorchester North Burying Ground and the Eliot Burying Ground. Their work brings together well-known histories and lesser-known stories to better reflect the full spectrum of individuals buried there — and, by extension, the evolving story of Boston itself.
In this panel discussion, these volunteers will share their research process, the questions guiding their work, and the challenges and rewards of interpreting burial grounds as public history sites. Attendees will get an early look at compelling stories uncovered through this research and learn how these discoveries will shape two new tours debuting later this year.
These tours are presented in partnership with the City of Boston’s Historic Burial Ground Initiative as part of the City-wide celebrations marking the 250th anniversary.
