Tour Description
Presented By:
Dan Keating
Program Description:
For the first 150 plus years after its founding, Boston was virtually an island. Its sole connection to the rest of Massachusetts Bay Colony was a thin strip of land called Boston Neck. After the American Revolution, a number of bridges were built connecting Boston’s peninsula to surrounding towns.
This presentation will focus on a few of the most significant of these bridges. You will learn about who built these bridges and why they built them. You will also learn about how these bridges transformed the Boston region and established transportation patterns that exist to this day.
