Tour Description

Tom Revay, Todd Hibbard, Janet Van Liere
Program Description:
As the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of American independence, Boston By Foot volunteer guides came together to create a new tour that thoughtfully examines the origins and ideals of American democracy—and the ways in which the nation has continually struggled to live up to them. Developed in response to the present moment, this tour invites participants to engage with history not as a fixed story, but as an ongoing and unfinished project.
In this panel discussion, the guides behind the tour will share how they collaborated to research, shape, and write a compelling public history experience on a tight timeline. They’ll discuss the questions they wrestled with, the choices they made about inclusion and interpretation, and the challenges of presenting complex, sometimes uncomfortable histories to contemporary audiences. Attendees will gain insight into the creative process behind the tour and enjoy a preview of this timely new offering, which will be available during the upcoming season.
