Tour Description
Ralph Adams Cram was an accomplished architect, author, and philosopher with a national reputation. He, and the firms he founded, designed many of Boston’s iconic buildings, particularly religious and academic structures. Cram was the father of the Gothic Collegiate style of university buildings and campuses. At the same time, he was a man of many personal contradictions.
This presentation shows the many Boston structures designed by Ralph Adams Cram and his firms and gives an overview of some incongruities that lay behind his great success. It concludes with a photo tour of St. Elizabeth’s Chapel, the small stone church that Cram built on the grounds of his country home in Sudbury, Mass.
