Boston's Innovation Trail

Wednesday, February 7, 2024 from 6:30pm EST to 7:30pm EST

Innovation Trail

Tour Description

Join us to learn about a new initiative by a partner who also loves to explore Boston.

Speakers Scott Kirsner and Bob Krim, co-founders of The Innovation Trail, will describe the ways that Boston, from the 1600s forward, became an ideal petri dish for inventors and innovators.

Hear how this influenced Thomas Edison and led to innovations such as surgical anesthesia, the telephone, Technicolor movies, and more.

They'll also share an update on The Trail, a new experience for visitors and locals that won a Best of Boston award in 2023 for "Best Walking Tour." From Boston Magazine: "Only in Cambridge can you take a scenic 10-minute stroll from the birthplace of a COVID-19 vaccine (Moderna’s headquarters) to a candy factory that supplies the world with Junior Mints. The area’s combined legacy as innovation hub and pedestrian paradise inspired Boston Globe columnist Scott Kirsner and Framingham State professor Robert Krim to connect such points of interest and create the Innovation Trail. Launched in 2022 and spanning from Downtown Crossing to Kendall Square, the walking tour visits more than 20 sites where seismic breakthroughs in science and technology took place. Follow along independently, or book a seasonal guide and prepare to be awed." theinnovationtrail.org

“We did 2 tours over 3 days, including the Freedom Trail. We were uncertain as the park service has a free tour but we decided to give it a shot with Boston By Foot. Glad we did because when you see the park service tour leave they have big groups like 20 - 30 people where as our group had 7 (5 was my family and 2 others) so you get to hear everything and ask questions. We also did Beacon Hill. Again a great tour!”
